🚀 Getting Started

Getting started is simple:

  • Download KidReels from the App Store
  • Open the app — you'll see the empty state screen
  • Tap the + button or "Add Videos" to import your first video
  • Choose videos from iCloud Drive, Files, Dropbox or Google Drive
  • That's it — swipe up and down to watch!

KidReels is designed for children aged 3–5 years old. The swipe gestures, large tap targets and simple math questions are all tuned for toddlers and preschool-age children.

Older children can enjoy it too, but the math questions (counting, simple addition, comparisons) are calibrated for early learners.

No — KidReels works 100% offline. Once your videos are imported, everything is stored on your device. No WiFi or mobile data is ever needed to watch videos.

This makes it perfect for flights, car trips, and anywhere without internet access.

No subscriptions, ever. KidReels is a one-time purchase of $3.99 USD. You own it permanently with no hidden fees, no in-app purchases and no recurring charges.

🎬 Managing Videos

You can add videos two ways:

  • Tap the + button in the top bar while watching
  • Go to Settings → Add Videos

The iOS Files picker will open, giving you access to:

  • iCloud Drive
  • On My iPhone (local storage)
  • Dropbox (if installed)
  • Google Drive (if installed)
  • Any other Files-compatible app

You can select multiple videos at once. They'll be copied into the app and available immediately.

KidReels supports the most common video formats:

  • MP4 — recommended, best compatibility
  • MOV — Apple QuickTime format
  • M4V — iTunes video format

If your video is in a different format (MKV, AVI, WEBM), you can convert it to MP4 using a free tool like HandBrake on Mac or PC before importing.

  • Tap the ⚙️ Settings button (top right)
  • Scroll to the Video Library section
  • Tap the 🗑️ trash icon next to the video you want to remove
  • Confirm deletion

This removes the video from KidReels only. The original file in iCloud or your Files app is not affected.

No. App updates never delete your imported videos. They are stored in the app's Documents folder which is preserved across updates.

However, if you delete and reinstall the app, your imported videos will be removed. We recommend keeping the original copies in iCloud or your Files app as a backup.

There is no hard limit on the number of videos. The only limit is your iPhone's available storage space. Each video is stored at its original quality, so a typical 5-minute MP4 video is around 200–500MB.

We recommend keeping your library to 20–30 videos for the best performance.

🧮 Math Questions
  • Tap the ⚙️ Settings button
  • Find Math Questions under Parental Controls
  • Toggle it OFF

Math questions will stop appearing immediately. You can re-enable them at any time.

Math questions appear naturally — whichever comes first:

  • After 10–15 video swipes (randomised each session)
  • After 10 minutes of continuous watching

This means questions appear roughly 1–2 times in a typical 15-minute session — frequent enough to be educational, infrequent enough not to interrupt the experience.

Nothing harsh happens. KidReels plays a gentle sound and dismisses the question. There are no penalties, no scary sounds, and no "wrong answer" screens that might upset a young child.

The video resumes immediately. We believe learning should always feel positive and stress-free.

🏆 Achievements
  • Tap the ⚙️ Settings button
  • Tap 🏆 Achievements at the top

You'll see all 10 achievements with locked/unlocked states, plus a stats summary showing total correct answers, current streak and accuracy percentage.

Yes. To reset all achievement progress and stats, you can delete and reinstall the app. This clears all locally stored data including achievements, streaks and accuracy scores.

Note: this will also remove any imported videos, so re-add them after reinstalling.

🔧 Troubleshooting

Try these steps in order:

  • Make sure the video is MP4, MOV or M4V format
  • Delete the video from Settings and re-import it
  • Check the video plays normally in the iPhone Photos or Files app
  • Restart the app by swiping it away and reopening
  • Restart your iPhone

If the video still won't play, it may be in an unsupported codec. Try converting it to H.264 MP4 using HandBrake (free) and re-importing.

  • Check your iPhone is not on silent mode (the physical switch on the side)
  • Turn up the volume using the side buttons
  • Check the video has audio by playing it in the Files app
  • Unplug any headphones and try again
  • Restart the app
  • Swipe the app away from the app switcher and reopen it
  • Make sure your iPhone has enough free storage (Settings → General → iPhone Storage)
  • Update to the latest version of KidReels from the App Store
  • Restart your iPhone

If crashes persist, please contact us below with your iPhone model and iOS version — we'll investigate right away.

  • Make sure you're connected to WiFi when importing from iCloud (the file needs to download first)
  • In the Files app, try opening the video first to make sure it's fully downloaded to your device
  • Check that iCloud Drive is enabled: Settings → [your name] → iCloud → iCloud Drive
  • Try importing the video again after it fully downloads
